Moreover, the system integrates a phase change material (PCM) to store and restore the heat of reaction of LaNi5. In this study, a 2D mathematical model is formulated to analyze the performance of a two-tank thermochemical heat storage system using metal hydrides pair (Mg2Ni/LaNi5), for high-temperature waste heat recovery. The integration of thermal energy storage systems (TES) in waste-heat recovery applications shows great potential for energy efficiency improvement. Overall, adsorption heat transformers with optimized design and control are promising to utilize low‐grade waste heat. Both performance indicators strongly depend on design, control, and the available temperature of the waste heat. The maximum specific heating power could increase by 35% when releasing waste heat at 25 ☌. When heat is upgraded from 90 ☌ to 110 ☌, releasing waste heat at 35 ☌, the maximum exergetic Coefficient Of Performance (COPexergetic) is 0.64, and the maximum Specific Heating Power (SHP) is 590 W kg−1. For the working pair AQSOA‐Z02/H2O, the performance is optimized via the design of the adsorber heat exchanger and the control of the adsorption heat transformer cycle. For evaluating the performance achievable in practice, this work studies a closed adsorption heat transformer in a one‐bed configuration using dynamic simulation. Low‐grade heat could be utilized by Adsorption Heat Transformers (AdHT) however, closed adsorption heat transformers to upgrade heat above 100 ☌ have only been investigated by idealized steady‐state analyses, which indicate the maximal theoretical performance. Thus, the industry cannot directly utilize low‐grade heat to save primary energy and emissions. Low‐grade heat is abundantly available below 100 ☌, while industry mainly needs heat above 100 ☌. The main objective of the study is to suggest a first tentative procedure to design the I-TES integrated system with the best energy performance. A biannual simulation of the system allows for a full description of the ice tank behavior during the charging and discharging processes. In particular, the focus is on the most important parameters affecting the performance of both the whole system and the Ice Tank, which is the position and the thickness of the insulation layers and the shape of the ice tank. The energy analysis is based on heating and cooling loads for a residential building located in Milan. This paper presents results relative to the use of a ground ice thermal energy storage (I-TES) integrated with a reversible heat pump for annual air conditioning. To do this, a seasonal energy storage is necessary. En effet, 700 MWh peuvent être revalorisés chaque mois sur un réseau fonctionnant à 90 ☌.ĭuring annual operation, a heat pump produces both heating and cooling effects, so it would be of great advantage to store one of the two to be then used when it is necessary.
